Under the direction of the Director of Product Management; the Product Engineer Specialist is responsible for product development technical issues and quality improvement of all products. These responsibilities include measurements, evaluation, and documentation of product characteristics with respect to function, reliability, and quality.
This position is based at the company's headquarters in Tabor City, NC.
Work with product managers to plan and develop new product ideas
Establish and document product specification requirements for all product lines
Evaluate product warranty, return and customer feedback data for quality and performance issues. Research warranty returns and parts identified with possible problems
Use AutoCAD to receive factory drawings; translate language as necessary and format to customer and DMA requirements. Maintain a drawing library database for all products.
Verify and maintain a product information database to document dimensional, technical and performance requirements for each product
Work with the factory and product management to aid in effective reverse engineering practices
Maintain the product sample room with examples of the latest version of all products
Confer with product management and the factory to prepare and implement design modifications to products
Oversee the product repair specialist; including work instructions, work quality and prioritization. Assist the Director of Product Management with the Quarantine Management Process.
Analyze test data and reports to determine if products meet functional, reliability and quality requirements
Review trade information, customer feedback, and tools such as Alldata for OEM TSB and product failure information
Assist product managers to prepare OE aftermarket testing documents and oversee factory and outside testing projects
Check all production samples and new product shipments to drawings for compliance with approved designs
Work with product managers to acquire, photograph and measure product samples. Prepare product development forms for factory sample shipments documenting development requirements
Prepare agendas and participate in all scheduled factory technical calls
Work with product managers and the Marketing Department to facilitate test installation of products. Prepare test installation reports and follow up with test vehicle owners for feedback. This includes OE Aftermarket test installation work.
Work with the factory to require properly researched and completed 8D process reports for product quality issues
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Autodesk 3D software
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Access
Understanding of manufacturing processes related to automotive parts
Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical systems
Maintain certifications on all measurement tools
Ability to lift 50 pounds and work with hand tools
Ability to travel 20%; including occasional international travel
Work in a collaborative manner with DMA staff, customers and the factory to accomplish objectives
Supervise repair workers
Minimum Associates Degree in Engineering plus 1-3 years in product engineering or four-year Mechanical or Quality Engineer degree
